From Bad To Worse [Jan. 25th, 2005|04:03 pm]

[Current Mood |sadcrap]

There was no data recoverable from the hard drive, it failed due to what's known as a head crash, a pretty serious one at that.

According to DriveSavers the data was completely destroyed. The drive is on its way back to me and the attempted service charge was $110.

This could have been prevented and there is no excuse for it.

I'm working on getting a message board up as a more permanent home and organizing what data I do have.

I still need to total up the donations, last count was around $2,500. I'd like to put it back into the server and hosting.

Yerf won't die, especially not like this. I owe it that much.

Thank you for not giving up.

We can look at this as a bad thing, yes. But we can also be optimistic about it.
Thanks for all the help and work you've put into this, Dingo. :o)

Well, Yerf was about the people who made it possible. Hopefully with the support of the community we can get it back to its full glory in no time. *hugs*

If you have any grunt work such as gathering data from web archives ("way back machine") and putting it in data base format or finding and contacting artists, let me help! Email me at annvole at hotmail.com and put the word "vole" anywhere in the subject line.

Yerf will not die. There are too many artists, hopefuls, and fans to even think about that happening. And who knows, the new yerf may be better than the old.

Oh man. That's a bummer. :(

Thank you for all of the hard work, though. I really appreciate it.

There is a loss to the history of artwork from people who no longer actively post or pursue furry works. We can only hope they will be kind enough to find and upload some of their pieces again.

This is just a bump in the road, and I am glad it's not the end of the journey.

Well shit..

This ended up taking a turn for the worse. {:/

This is dissapointing news, I admit, but please; I wouldn't beat yourself up over this. You did the best you could for everyone & the majority of us truly appreciate your efforts. There's no way you could've known this was even going to happen. It's sad all the old art & accounts had to go but well, shit happens.. Nothing you can really do but go with what you can. A personal thank you for dedicating so much of your time into trying. <3

Well, so then. What do we have? Ealier you said that you had the artwork. Is this still true? What needs to be done?

I sent an International money order for US$50 on Monday (half expecting police in full SWAT gear to leap out at the post office, guns trained on me, and reveal that Dingo is the world's most wanted terrorist), so give it a week.
Ah well Dingo, at least the drive died in a fully-fledged, no holds barred kind of way. It would be frustrating if it died because of a minor problem or because somebody accidentally spilt coffee on it.
And at least now you know you're appreciated ;) Yerf has been around FOR EVER and it's time you got some credit.

Da code

So if I'm correctly remembering that the code is gone too, now, what language will the new one be written in, and where do coders sign up?

Well. For as hard as you've worked in the past (as well as the effort you went through to get things back), I'm sure everything will be fine in time. Maybe we should look at this as simply...a big (REALLY BIG) spring cleaning - a chance to shake off old cobwebs, buy a new sofa, bleach the toilet, and rebuild things even more fantastic than they were. I mean there's gotta be a lot you've learned about building and maintaining such a site. Now you can start with that knowledge instead of learning it the hard way through trials and troubles...right?
